Camera choice in Europe is as much a legal question as a technical one: what your camera may film, and where the footage is stored, matters before resolution does.

Record locally where you can

Local storage on an SD card or a home NAS avoids subscription creep and keeps footage inside your home. Cloud recording is convenient, but check where the provider stores data and for how long.

  • Frame your own property — pavements and neighbours' gardens create legal exposure
  • IP65 as a minimum, IP66 if the camera is fully exposed
  • Check cold-weather ratings if you are in central or northern Europe
